I still like futsal

January 17th, 2010

I wrote this article last year on futsal. I wrote the article because I wanted to bring attention to futsal and compare it to indoor soccer with walls. In short, I like the challenge presented to players to have to be able to control the ball rather than just belt it against a wall.

I still like futsal. My daughter’s U-14 team is playing in the current session with Tri-Valley Futsal. We’ve broken the group into two teams (since we had 15 girls sign up) — one with 7 and one with 8. I enjoy watching the speed of play and the creativity on the ball. In the smaller space, it is easier to try to destroy play — but the girls are beginning to understand that while defending is important, the quick movements of the ball are what is going to allow them to create goal scoring chances. The two games that my teams played yesterday were some of the best and most enjoyable games that I’ve watched.

Futsal continues to provide a great opportunity to work on individual skills while providing excitement and challenge to the players.
