Dublin High Men’s Soccer win first DFAL championship
It’s been 42 years in the making, but Friday night the DHS Men’s Varsity soccer team won the first ever DFAL league championship. Dublin defeated Miramonte 4-1 combined with Acalanes tie at Alhambra gave the Gaels the title. Dublin scored first when Trevor Weir made some incredible moves to lose two defenders, before he served a pass into the box where Cody Hoster heared the ball for a goal. Miramonte responded with a PK goal 6 minutes later. Just before the half Nick Rhoads had his first assist of the season when he crossed the ball to Alex Marshall who scored in front of the goal. The second half found Trevor Weir scoring off a pass from Brandon Lee. 2 minutes later Cody Hoster scored unassisted when he broke through two defenders and shot directly in front of the goal. This is the first League Championship for the Dublin Gaels Men’s soccer program in the schools history and earns the Gaels a guaranteed bid into the Season Ending NCS playoofs. In the earlier match the JV team played to a 0-0 tie. The JV Gaels controlled the match throughout but were unable to finish Miramonte. a terrific game from Justin Pryor and Andrew Chalker preserved the shutout. It is the 6th tie of the season for the JV Gaels.
